Female alysh squad to head to Kyrgyzstan

TEHRAN, Feb. 08 (MNA) – Iran Women’s national alysh team will leave for Kyrgyzstan in order to take part in a belt wrestling tournament.

The Kyrgyzstan’s Bayaman Erkinbayev belt wrestling (alysh) tournament will kick off on March 15 in Kyrgyzstan capital of Bishkek and will come to a close on March 18.

The names of the selected Iranian alysh practitioners to take part in the event are as follow:

55kg: Zahra Yazdani

60kg: Zahra Mahmoudi

65kg: Hanieh Ghodratipour

70kg: Samaneh Khojasteh

75kg: Zahra Majdi

+75kg: Asieh Shojaei

Head coach: Farasat Mobtadi

Alysh is a sport like wrestling and judo in which athletes wear a special dress with a wide belt like that worn by judo players; the sport has a 300-year-old history in Iran and it is the most popular one in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Khuzestan and Semnan.
